Peach Wine Spritzers
These peach wine spritzers are the perfect summer cocktail. Light and sweet, they beg you to drink them outside on the patio or sitting on the front porch. This post is a special post to me, written in honor of a special family member who deserves to be toasted with these sweet fruity drinks.
I know I’ve mentioned it before when I wrote my vegetable soup with quinoa recipe, but I grew up with my Nana living in our home with us. She was such a special lady.
At 4’11 and a half, she was a tiny ball of spunk who’s height was mainly comprised of teased hair and a quick witted tongue. She was took care of myself and my sister and brother while my parents were at work when we were kids. And let me tell you, even though she was well into her 70s when we were kids, she kept up with us. Now that I am a mom, I know that this was no easy feat. She basically ran our household.
On summer days, she used to corale all three of us and treat us to lunch and play time. She’d play board game after board game with us. Trouble, Pizza Party, and Uno were her favorites. She used to sit in the sunshine with us while we swam in the backyard pool.
During the school year, she’d wake us up and get us out the door. Now for me, getting out the door on time has never been something I’m good at. I fail mornings hard. And I was no better when I was kid. I was always hard to get going in the morning but she would do it.
My internal clock has always been skewed. Because I hated mornings, I have always been a night owl. I would creep out of my room long after my siblings and parents had gone to bed for the night and my Nana would be sitting in her arm chair in the living room, reading a book and drinking a glass of wine.
I’d go downstairs and put on shows for her which basically consisted of me dancing around like a crazy person or we’d talk about books we liked since we were both bookworms. When I was older, we would talk about how cute Leonardo Dicaprio was (yes, I was one of THOSE girls) and we’d share the same books. Sometimes, she’d let me sneak a taste of her wine and I’d feel so special. Peach flavored wine was her favorite.
After I was much older and had moved out, I would go visit home and I’d end up on the front porch, drinking a glass of peach wine with my Nana and my sister. She would tell us about going to the senior center and her “annoying friends” and listen to what was going on in our lives during those porch chats.
Sunday would have been her 95th birthday. So this cocktail is for her- a peach wine spritzer I know she would have loved. Cheers to you Nana.Print
