What I’m Wednesday 50

Welcome to the place where I share what I’m up to each week and a bit of my real life outside of the blog.

Doing

Um…. another puzzle? I know. Quarantining has made me totally boring.

And puddle walks. What good are mud puddles and hot summer rains if you don’t let the kids jump in them? The only puddle walk rules: the walker must be in rain boots or duck shoes/flip flops and old clothes or bathing suits. Then they can have at it til their hearts are content.

Reading

I’ve slowed down on reading some. I’m about halfway through The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon. It’s cute- a workplace romance between a go getter software developer and an undercover FBI agent posing as a regular employee at the same company.  As soon as I finish this, I’ll be reading Not Like the Movies by Kerry Winfrey. She wrote Not Like Tom Hanks, which was one of my favorite reads of the last year.

Watching

So much!

First!! Hamilton! I’m a former theater kid and for awhile I directed children’s theater productions and taught drama so I love all things Broadway. I’ve been a fan of the Hamilton music for so long, but have never seen the show until now.

I got up on July 3 and immediately turned on Disney+ to watch. It was so good! I’ve watched it twice and need to watch it more. I’m in love.

A few highlights for me:

  • Jonathan Groff as King George. OMG. I LOVE HIM AND HIS PERFORMANCE. #obsessed
  • And Peggy. LOL too funny, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Jasmine Cephas Jones as Peggy and then later as Mariah Reynolds.
  • The staging of Helpless was absolutely brilliant.
  • If Helpless was brilliant, then Satisfied was doubly brilliant. Holy cow. I cannot get enough. I will never be satisfied and will always want to watch this song.
  • Quiet Uptown. Ouch, so stunningly painful. The quiet grief and bewildered expressions on Lin-Manuel Miranda’s and Phillipa Soo’s faces nailed what it’s like to lose a child.
  • KING GEORGE in Never Gonna Be President Now. OMG OMG OMG. Too much.

Did you watch Hamilton? What did you think? I want to know!! Leave me a comment below or tell me on Facebook. I could talk all day about it.

Also watching- The Baby-sitters Club on Netflix with my daughter. I’m 3 episodes in, but so far I’m pretty impressed with how Netflix has modernized the show and still made some things (like landlines) make sense for them. Also, it’s weird watching this now as an adult. When I was a kid reading the books, I always thought the girls seemed so grown up. Now, watching it, I realize how young they were/are. Sort of trippy. But it’s been good to watch with Goose. It’s wholesome content with lots of good messaging and it’s sparked some good conversation about honesty thanks to The Truth about Stacey episode.

Lastly, season 6 of Schitt’s Creek on Youtube TV. SO GOOD! One of my favorite episodes of the series has got to be the nocturnal oopsy daisy. I DIE.

Eating

My husband and daughter made me this giant skillet chocolate chip cookie for my birthday. So good. Also been doing this Greek chicken and so much baked corn on the cob.

Enjoying

My sister bought me a weighted blanket for my birthday and I have to say it’s been a sleep game changer. I’m generally a raging insomniac and it’s the worst in the summer because we take the layers of blankets off our bed so it doesn’t feel as cozy without the weight of the added layers. But if add too many blankets in the summer, I get too hot. The weighted blanket gave me that cozy feeling without it being too hot. Love it.

That’s it for me this week! What are you up to? How are you all holding up? Leave me a comment and let me know!
