Equipment

  • Scissors
  • Hot glue and hot glue gun
  • Floral wire

Materials

  • Fabric- You can use any fabric you have on hand. I made these with burlap and precut pieces of fabric that I bought from the craft store. You could also repurpose old flannel or denim to make these and they would be adorable.
  • Plastic grocery bags
  • Rubber bands
  • Ribbons- Ribbons make cute "stems." I like to mix and match ribbon patterns and widths but I do suggest keeping the width of the ribbons between 1/8" and 1/2" wide. Raffia and twine look really nice added to this mix as well.
  • Other embellishments- I like to add a few fall floral pieces and cinnamon sticks to decorate my pumpkins. But have fun with it and be creative.

Instructions

  • Lay a square of fabric down flat and stuff. Make sure the fabric is print side down and flat. Wad up enough plastic bags to fill out your pumpkins and form a ball. Place the plastic bag ball in the center of the fabric square.
  • Gather the fabric around the plastic bag ball. Working from the corners gather the fabric up around the plastic bag ball as if you are making a fabric ponytail in the middle of the plastic bag ball. Secure the fabric tail with a rubber band and tuck the ends of the fabric into the band to form a stem.
  • Add ribbon or raffia.Tie ribbon around the base of the stem of the pumpkin so it covers the rubber band. Feel free to get creative and add multiple ribbons, raffia, or tie bows.
  • Tuck a cinnamon stick in to and embellish with florals to finish. You might have to adjust the fabric and the cinnamon stick a little until you are happy with how it looks. I prefer the stick to be vertically oriented. Finish by attaching florals, leaves or small pinecones to the pumpkins with floral wire or hot glue. Keep adjusting the fabric and florals until you are happy with how it looks. Display as a centerpiece or on a shelf.
