Spiced Apple Cider Sangria
It’s no secret that I love fall hard.
It’s seriously my favorite time of year. Yes, even more than Christmas, because fall is full of anticipation for Christmas. It is part of the season for me so when the actual season gets here… well, it’s here and I can’t look forward to it anymore.
My mind is a weird place.
Anyway, part of why I love fall: it’s so much fun to get together with friends and make delicious fall food like this pumpkin parmesan pizza with brown butter onions and kale or pumpkin penne with peas, Parmesan, and sage. And of course, when you make delicious fall food, you have to make a delicious fall drink.
Say hello to this spiced apple cider sangria. It’s pretty much fall in wine form and could even carry you through the holiday season. It’s got all the festive flavors: cinnamon, apples, oranges, cider, ginger. Oh yes.
All these flavors are set against a background of Spanish or French red wine Garnacha/Grenache. I love drinking European wine. It makes me feel all fancy and classy. Even when I am drinking it in my sweatpants. Or pajama pants. Because I hate real pants. Pants are awful.
The great thing about Garnacha and Grenache wines is that it is super affordable. You just feel fancy because its European quality wine being that the wines are Spanish or French, but it doesn’t hurt the wallet. Plus it is available in white, black, and gray varieties. So, you know, options for one and all.
Any of the reds will work perfectly for this. I wanted something that cold be served cold if it is hot this fall the way it currently is or mulled when the weather finally cools off. I chose to use El Circo Acrobata Garnacha in this spiced apple cider sangria to play off the fruity notes. However, any red Garnacha or Grenache wine will be spectacular in this. You can learn more about the wines of Garnacha here and the Grenache wines here.
Ingredients

- 4 cinnamon sticks plus more for garnish if desired

Wow your photos look incredible!! I love cider sangria but I have always used white sangria. I love the idea of using red!!!
I only started drinking reds recently. I am a big fan of white sangria too and white would work well in this too. However then you wouldn’t have the pretty autumn color.
