Nothing says celebrate America like red, white, and blue s’mores dip!

This gooey, chocolately skillet s’more dip is ready in less than 10 minutes, making it an easy last minute dessert option.

It’s also – oddly- a bit less messy than your traditional s’more.

And since every thing comes pre-melted, you don’t have to stand around a fire waiting for the perfectly roasted marshmallow, only to have it burned to a crisp because it got just a tad too hot, wasting your time and making you wonder would you really look odd just shoving some half-melted chocolate bar into your mouth any way as the others around the fire enjoy a well-toasted marshmallow in a perfect s’more.

Not that that’s ever happened to me or anything.

Best part of this s’more dip is that you don’t need to limit yourself to just graham crackers.

You can – and really should – use Oreos, chocolate chip cookies, a spoon, and just about any cookie you can think of to shovel this sticky goodness into your mouth as quickly as possible.

Ingredients and Kitchen Supplies

Here’s what you need to make the perfect red, white, and blue s’more dip recipe:

  • Butter – This helps to prevent the marshmallows, chocolate, and candy from sticking to the skillet.
  • White chocolate – You could sub in milk or semi-sweet chocolate chips if you like – or just add them in anyway. Who doesn’t want more chocolate?
  • Candy Melts – For a truly patriotic experience, you will want to get red and blue candy melts. Seasonally, most stores with a baking section carry these, but you can ussually always find them in the baking section of craft stores, like Michaels, or online at Amazon.
  • Large marshmallows – We use large marshmallows, but really any sized marshmallows will work. You just want to completely cover the skillet.
  • Sprinkles – We live in a marvolously over-indulgent age where you can find sprinkles for just about any occassion, including Memorial Day and the 4th of July. Go ahead and sprinkle fun decor to your heart’s content!

When we make s’more dip recipes, we use a large cast iron skillet.

Cast iron skillets retain their heat for a while after heating up, so it allows the s’more dip to be gooey for longer.

How to make red, white, and blue s’more dip

1. Melt the butter

In a large cast iron skillet, melt the butter and spread it around the pan.

As it melts, preheat your oven to 450 degrees F.

2. Melt the chocolate and candies

As the butter melts, microwave in separate bowls the red and blue candy melts and white chocolate for 10 seconds.

After 10 seconds, stir, and repeat.

Keep microwaving and stirring until each candy is melted in their respective bowls.

Pour the melted candies and chocolate into the cast iron skillet.

You can use a fork to swirl the candies to make pretty designs, but you can also just let it sit as you pour it.

3. Bake the s’more dip

Once the candy is poured in and to your liking, top it with the marshmallows.

You will want to fully cover the top, but a bit of spacing is OK if using larger or oddly sized marshmallows.

Bake the red, white, and blue s’more dip for 2 to 3 minutes or until the marshmallows start to puff and brown slightly.

Top with sprinkles (go ahead, I know you want to), whipped cream, or more chocolate chips or candies.

Be sure to have graham crackers, Oreos, chocolate chip cookies, Milanos, or your favorite dippers ready to go on a serving plate.

Storing s’more dip

It’s really not a great idea to store s’more dip.

No, it doesn’t “go bad” per se, but it does solidify into a hard to fix mass if left over-night in the fridge.

You can gently reheat the dip in a warm oven, but it will be hard to get it heated through well.

So that said, try to stuff all the dip down in one sitting and don’t leave any for tomorrow.

Tips for Making Red, White, and Blue Skillet S’mores Dip

  • You don’t have to melt the candy or white chocolate ahead of time in the microwave. Instead you could just add the candy melts and white chocolate chips to the skillet and put it in a 450 degree oven for about 10 minutes. Then pull the skillet out and top with marshmallows and put it back in the oven for another 2 minutes. If you choose to do it this way, just know the white chocolate and candy will not melt as smoothly. It’ll still taste good though.
  • Be careful not to overcook the chocolate or the candy in the microwave. I microwaved them in small bowls, one at a time, for 10 to 20 seconds at a time. Then I’d stir and put it back in the microwave for another 10 seconds, stir, and repeat until the candy melted. If you overcook the chocolate or the candy it will get clumpy and hard and develop a bit of a acrid flavor.
  • If you don’t have a cast iron skillet, you could make this in an 10×10 baking dish. However, cast iron holds its heat very well, so the s’more dip will stay melty longer in a cast iron pan than it will in a baking dish.
  • For chocolate lovers, melt in some milk or semi-sweet chocolate chips. You could also add a layer of Hershey bars between the candies and the marshmallows.
  • Don’t worry too much about the marshmallow size. You can use just about any marshmallow you want, just make sure to cover the top of the skillet with only small gaps between the marshmallows.
