What I’m Wednesday 55

Welcome to the place where I share what I’m up to each week and a bit of my real life outside of the blog.

Little girl in pink swim shirt on a water filled plastic tarp,

This was such a fail. Look at her face. Also you can see all the bits of grass and mud from when it rolled down our yard.

Failing at

Playing hard in our yard.

We attempted to make this DIY water blob that I found online here.

Whoa boy. Let me just say, this was probably the biggest Pinterest fail I have ever had. My expectation was that there would be a big plastic blob in our backyard to lay on or for our kids to climb on. It looked easy enough. All we needed according to the website was some duct tape and some thick plastic sheeting. Done and done.

The website and my common sense failed to mention the part where we would also need a perfectly flat yard to make this work. Womp womp.

My husband and I set out about making this on the part of our backyard that is the flattest. Now it still has a slight slope away from our house in that part of the yard. It’s not like we live on top of a cliff or a mountain. And it’s not like we set out to make this blob on the front yard which is a fairly steep hill down to our house. Nope. Like I said, backyard, where it is somewhat flat-ish.

We get the plastic sheeting taped together which was far more of a pia than I originally thought it would be to make the blob and put the hose in it. All good so far. We start filling it up with water. Still good.

For awhile.

The blob was supposed to get pretty full. It got maybe a third of the way full before it started rolling down our yard like a giant living blob of flubber.

I have never seen anything like it.

Still, we had invested far too much time into this supposedly easy project to stop there with it rolling end over end down the yard. So rather than do the intelligent thing and walk away, what do we do?

We obviously haul the massive water bag back up our yard. All the way to the top of the hill at the top of our front yard. We make our daughter bring us the hose, and we fill the blob up until it got too heavy to hold any longer.

Then we let the thing rip and roll down the entire yard in all its blob glory. And this, friends, may have been one of the most 2020 moments I have ever had. Go watch my Instagram stories to see this sucker in action.

Winning at

Playing hard in our yard.

We had a lot of plastic sheeting leftover after the great blob fail of 2020 so decided the next day to do a project in the backyard that worked with the natural slope. We made a very long diy slip and slide and spent an afternoon bellyflopping down our yard with our daughter like we were all some sort of boneless seals.

It was so much fun… until the next day when it hurt to move from repeatedly hurling my aging body into the side of yard. But still… worth it.

Watching

So we finished bingewatching Nailed It and have moved on to the Nailed It Holidays, which may be even better.

Also looking forward to watching The Lost Husband on Netflix. The movie is based on a book by Katherine Center and I really enjoy her stories so hoping it will be goo too.

Reading

I finished binge reading the Selection series books. Books 2 and 3 were as good as the first one, though at times the main characters were frustrating. However, I actually thought the plot intensified really well over the course of the series, making the last book the best. I read it all in one sitting and I don’t do much of that anymore. Highly recommend if you are a Hunger Games fan.

Because I was so into the Selection last week, I put down Love at First Like by Hannah Orenstein for a little while. It’s fun but I am still stressed out over the poor choices that the main character makes. It’s really weird that I can read a series of dystopian novels where people die and not be stressed by those, but reading real life novels where the character makes bad choices both in love and with her business makes me anxious.

Eating

S’mores Rice Krispie treats. The kids love em and the big one keeps asking for them.

That’s it for me this week! What are you up to? How are you all holding up? Leave me a comment and let me know!
