Frozen Hot Chocolate Floats

Frozen Hot Chocolate Floats

Today as part of our Christmas in July celebration here, I bring you frozen hot chocolate floats. I know it’s the second dessert of the Christmas in July party but the holidays are all about dessert, right?

Oh yes. Frozen hot chocolate floats. So I have basically taken junk food and made it even more junky delicious. You can thank me later.

What proper Christmas celebration happens without a good mug of hot chocolate? Of course since it’s approximately 5000 humid degrees here, I am not going to be snuggling up with my Goose on the couch drinking a steamy mug of hot chocolate.

As fabulous as that sounds in December, right now the idea of snuggling anything other than a snowman sounds pretty awful.

However, these frozen hot chocolate floats are pretty fabulous in this heat. I’ve been obsessed with frozen hot chocolate since I first saw the movie One Fine Day about a million years ago. (PS. Hello 90s George Clooney!) In that movie, there’s a scene where Michelle Pfieffer takes the two kids to Serendipity to get desserts and one of the desserts they order is frozen hot chocolate. That drink was pretty much the stuff my childhood dreams were made of.

Is it weird that I dreamed in chocolate?

Anyway, I made it my goal after seeing that movie to try one of these drinks at Serendipity in New York. Now I have been to New York at least a dozen times or more since I have been an adult but we have never gotten there.

I know. Tragic.

So when I was in Vegas with my husband and his family years ago, I saw there is a Serendipity on the strip. I finally got to experience the treat that is frozen hot chocolate.

It was everything I dreamed it would be. Almost.

I took it upon myself to make it even better. I added ice cream to the top of it, making it a float.

Oh yes. It is good. And so easy to make with just 5 minutes and a blender.

So good in fact, that it was a momentary cease fire in a day of toddler warfare. Drinking the rest of the floats while I watched a bit of A Dog Named Christmas on Hallmark Gold Crown was the only peace I had. The Goose had gotten up 2 hours early. She took her diaper off twice in public. There may have been a public tantrum or two. Sitting and sipping this frosty, chocolatey treat during nap was magic.

Then sadly, the Goose woke up. After a mere 45 minutes. Thankfully, I had polished off the rest of my frozen hot chocolate float by then so I didn’t have to share. #winning

    Recipe confused me:
“3 cups of ice cubes, 3 cups of ice”
    Please to explain

    • jfletcher says:

So sorry Darrell. I had my toddler on my lap as I was finishing the post. She had reached her limit and I thought I caught all my typos. I clearly missed one ๐Ÿ™‚ It should have read 3 cups of ice, 3 cups of milk. I appreciate you pointing it out. I have fixed it!
